Many Woodlands homebuyers have a home feature wish list when starting their search for real estate in The Woodlands— a big yard, a specific number of bedrooms, perhaps a pool. In fact, in today’s current market more and more homebuyers are deciding now is the time to purchase a home, sellers are gaining confidence to list their homes for sale, and the American dream of homeownership is alive and well. But what type of homes are registering with these demographics? For the luxury group, it seems real estate is a top-ranking priority.

According to a new survey from Better Homes and Gardens, which included 500 luxury homebuyers, both luxury homeowners and buyers place a high value on real estate. What’s more, the survey found that 75 percent of luxury homebuyers believe homeownership is a better investment than the stock market and 57 percent of homeowners say homeownership is a bigger indicator of success than their job or title.

“The luxury consumer is considered a trendsetter in most industries and to see the strong connection this consumer has with ‘home’ is very significant as we look at the real estate market as a whole,” Sherry Chris, president and CEO of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate LLC, shared with RISMedia. “The luxury homebuyer has high standards and invests the money, the time, and the commitment to making their home fit their needs and reflect who they are. It’s remarkable that they do this so well that nearly all— 93 percent— believe their house is the best one on their block.”

What makes them tick? The survey found luxury homebuyers searching for homes in The Woodlands can be categorized by the following:

They are willing to sacrifice square footage for amenities
“Sixty-percent of luxury homebuyers surveyed said they would rather have as many upgrades as they can afford in their home rather than greater square footage,” Realtor Magazine reported. “Ninety-four percent of those surveyed would be willing to give up 1,000 square feet of living space in their next home in order to get the amenities they most desire, such as living in a better neighborhood, living in a house with “character,” more land, access to dining and entertainment, and a shorter commute.”

They want a high-tech home
In today’s real estate market, more homebuyers are looking for homes with the tech factor. 66 percent of buyers surveyed admitted they would rather have a “smart” home than a “green” home, with 87 percent stating they wouldn’t even consider buying a home that wasn’t tech-friendly.

They value outdoor spaces
Luxury homebuyers in the survey placed a high value on outdoor spaces and listed them as must-haves in their new homes in The Woodlands. Some of the outdoor amenities they found essential were gardens, outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, and at times, a separate guest living quarters.
